Partner with a fellow space explorer and transport yourself to the Red Planet, where you can conduct NASA-approved experiments and activities in virtual reality.
The Astronaut Training Experience (ATX) at the Kennedy Space Center inspires the next generation of space explorers by preparing visitors for deep space exploration. In the Walk on Mars virtual reality experience, players are transported to the Red Planet where they will work as a team to complete missions and avoid life threatening incidents.
In this multiplayer experience, collaboration is vital to mission success. One player assumes the role of astronaut and steps onto the Red Planet to complete tasks using virtual reality. The other player utilizes the astronaut’s live feed, as well as a satellite feed, to guide the astronaut remotely from the “Telecommunications Control Center” (TCC).
In multiple levels of time-based missions, the pair seek out specific rock samples, repair their rover, and sustain power to the basecamp - all while natural events, like sandstorms, strike at any moment.
Collaboration was the key to our success too. We worked closely with MDSX and Educators at ATX to rebuild and redesign the aging Walk on Mars experience from the ground up. No piece of the Red Planet was untouched or untested, from the user interface to the rover, to the Mars environment itself. New flexibility was added to allow for future mission enhancements, features, and emerging technology needs. The result is a fully reimagined intuitive user experience that’s also future-proof.
